The second model of the new BMW 8 Series range – the convertible – was just spotted on the Nurburgring. Set for introduction in 2019, it eschews the folding hardtop arrangement favored by BMW for its convertible models in recent years for an automatic multi-layer fabric hood.

Unlike the Coupe, the convertible could be even closer to the original due to the fact that it actually lacks a B-pillar, just like the 90s model used to. Even in coupe form, the Concept 8 Series is said to be about 80 percent of the final production series car.The latest prototype spotted at the Nurburgring has most of its body hidden underneath vinyl wraps. However, we do know that it will adopt many of the design features of the 8-Series Concept, both on the inside and outside the car.

As far as the engine lineup goes, expect an assortment of six- and eight-cylinder units, and even a possible V12, which will power the 825, 830, 835, 850, 845, 860 and M850, as these are the monikers trademarked by BMW last year. An M8 Convertible is also planned.
