Spied at the Nürburgring in full Karussell mode, this BMW 8 Series prototype seems to be packing at least eight cylinders.
It’s Munich’s answer to Stuttgart’s S-Class Coupé and the car all luxury cruiser fans have been waiting for since the original went out of production in 1999. A new BMW 8 Series. Something wide and surprisingly cheap ten years from now.
Keeping up with the trends, the new 8s will start rolling off the assembly lines in 2018, likely to be equipped with anything from a hybrid V6 powertrain to a twin-turbo V8. What’s more, BMW will also make an M version, completing a job they left unfinished sometime in 1991. And then, they’ll even take it to Le Mans, to race it in GTE spec. Oh yeah!
And just like how the race car will be powered by a V8, eight-cylinder cars seem to rule the expensive part of town as well. Luckily, BMW has a four-liter twin-turbo of that kind, producing lots of power and all the right noises that then can get isolated from the occupants with thick leathers and digital noise cancellation.
Get stuck behind one in traffic though, and the soundtrack will be just fine, as proven by this oversized Nurburgring warrior
